The inferno that brought down the World Trade Center towers was equal in power to a nuclear reaction, says the Canadian scientist at the centre of the collapse investigation.

Dr. Venkatesh Kodur was the only non-American on the team of engineers studying how the impact of two passenger airliners caused the collapse of the towers.

"The building would have stood up if it was just the impact of the plane, if there were no fires," said Kodur. "It was the fire which finally brought it down."

Kodur is a National Research Council scientist and structural engineer studying fire's effects on materials and buildings. The Ottawa-based scientist told his story to engineers last night at the Westin Hotel.

About half the support columns in each tower were crippled by the impact of each of the planes - both of which then exploded when their fuel ignited, said Kodur.

"We are talking about huge amounts of fire. Never before has a building collapsed just because of fire."

Exploding jet fuel created a massive inferno which shot through the interior of each tower, said Kodur.

"It set a lot of floors on fire at the same time."

With temperatures nearing 1,100 C, the remaining structural support columns began to fail. But engineers had never before seen so swift a collapse, said Kodur.

"The thing was, the energy produced in these fires was equal to that produced in a nuclear power plant."

No engineering solution could proof buildings against an airplane collision, said Kodur.

One lesson learned, however, has been to consider moving fire escape stairways to outside corners of the building, he said

whats going on in calgary

yesterday in calgary people were diging up over 40cm of the white stuff we call snow. this was the biggest dump calgary has had since 1981 when calagry got hit with 48.4 cm of snow. this snow storm has caused a fataility, a calgary man died from a heart attack while shoviling his drive way, there was also injury's caused by car accidents. in almost one day galgary experianced 40cm of snow and is expecting 8cm more which equals 48cm of snow.The single-day downfall is nearly four times the monthly average for precipitation for May -- 10.2 cm. Most charter, private, and rural schools were shut down but Calgary public and Catholic facilities stayed open. Paramedics tended to three patients who suffered heart attacks while shoveling snow.

Elkern is a low-polymorphic cavity infector with network spreading capabilities. The virus first appeared on 25th-26th of October 2001. When we originally got the sample of Klez worm, we found out that it dropped this virus to a system. The virus then lived its own life not dependant on the worm. It should be noted that the virus doesn't work on any operating system except Windows 98 because of a serious bug in its code. Due to some blind luck the virus also works on Windows 2000.

The virus consists of 4 main parts - initial decryptor, startup code, the API table and the main code. When the virus code gets control, the initial decryptor which is low-polymorphic, decrypts the startup code code and passes control to it. The virus then locates KERNEL32.DLL library by scanning Windows memory and gets API addresses of 27 Windows functions. The virus then allocates a block of memory for itself and copies its body in several parts there

Edmonton if the oilers dont play detroit in the first round then i think that the oilers have a good chance of going far in the playoffs they got strong defence, they ony allowed 9 goals in the last 9 games if the oilers can convert offence and defence in the playoffs then they have a chance to go far

Dallas= i belive that the dallas stars wont make the playoffs.the trade that they made at the NHL trade deadline may come back to haunt them if they make the playoffs, they gave a good strong defencemen in nieuwendyk and in return got a player who will soon retire nieuwendyk is 39 but i think he still got 3 seasons left. plus if dallas dosent make the playoffs then my friend owes me $10 so dallas must lose

thank you mr.briggs for posting the information that i need for my post.
my biggets pet peeve in terms of canadian sterotype is when people form different countrys wont come to canada because they hear false information about canada's country and they dont even no anything about canada
when i went to utah last july i ment this kid named josh on the first day we started to talk, i asked him if he heard of edmonton his answer was no.and that made me think before i came to edmonton i new lots about utah where is was located what type of people live there ect. but whe i asked him about canada he didnt really know anything about canada. so after 1 week
i ask him if he could tell me more about utah and i would tell him more about canada and edmonton so we started to talk. after are conversation i asked him if he would ever want to travel to canada posibbly edmonton he said he learnt so much about canada and edmonton that he wanted to learn more and visit canada.
