"It was the fire which finally brought it down."

Kodur is a National Research Council scientist and structural engineer studying fire's effects on materials and buildings. The Ottawa-based scientist told his story to engineers last night at the Westin Hotel.

About half the support columns in each tower were crippled by the impact of each of the planes - both of which then exploded when their fuel ignited, said Kodur.

"We are talking about huge amounts of fire. Never before has a building collapsed just because of fire."

Exploding jet fuel created a massive inferno which shot through the interior of each tower, said Kodur.

"It set a lot of floors on fire at the same time."

With temperatures nearing 1,100 C, the remaining structural support columns began to fail. But engineers had never before seen so swift a collapse, said Kodur.

"The thing was, the energy produced in these fires was equal to that produced in a nuclear power plant."

No engineering solution could proof buildings against an airplane collision, said Kodur.

One lesson learned, however, has been to consider moving fire escape stairways to outside corners of the building, he said

Allez Senegal

With a team drawn from the French league, World Cup newcomer Senegal stunned the world champion in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup finals. The military would then be empowered to remove or prevent anyone from entering the “military security zone” who did not have state authorization to be there.Last July, Chrétien announced the G-8 leaders will next convene in Kananaskis, a small village in a Rocky Mountain provincial park of the same name. Government spokesmen readily admitted that this remote locale was chosen to insulate the summit from the mass protests that have disrupted recent international gatherings of government leaders, such as the 1999 World Trade Organization conference in Seattle and last year’s Summit of the Americas and Genoa G-8 summit.

While happy to just be back in the lineup, Toronto's Mats Sundin is more concerned with helping his team beat the Carolina Hurricanes.
Exactly how the Toronto captain will do that is the biggest question heading into Tuesday night's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals series at the Air Canada Centre
Sundin returned from a 12-game layoff due to a broken bone in his left wrist in Game 2. Toronto lost the game, 2-1, in overtime to send the best-of-seven series back to Toronto tied at one game apiece.Toronto coach Pat Quinn admitted Monday he had trouble finding a place to fit in Sundin, as well as three other injured players -- Darcy Tucker, Tie Domi and defenseman Jyrki Lumme – in Game 2. His team had won three-straight games in convincing fashion before Sunday.

Sundin started the game on a fourth-line with Tucker and Domi. As the game progressed, Sundin was moved around a bit, but Toronto's top lines stayed together for the most part.the absence of Sundin, the unheralded McCauley moved up to center a line featuring wingers Gary Roberts and Jonas Hoglund. That line has carried Toronto for close to a month. McCauley, who scored the tying goal in Game 2, has 15 points. Roberts has a career-best 19 points, including seven goals. Hoglund, who scored the game-winner in Game 1 against Carolina, has four goals and 10 points.

topic change

the only canadian team left in the 2002 playoffs are the toronto mapleleafs, so i have decided to change my topic my blogg will now include baseball, basketball(the rest of the playoffs), and golf.

whats going on in calgary

yesterday in calgary people were diging up over 40cm of the white stuff we call snow. this was the biggest dump calgary has had since 1981 when calagry got hit with 48.4 cm of snow. this snow storm has caused a fataility, a calgary man died from a heart attack while shoviling his drive way, there was also injury's caused by car accidents. in almost one day galgary experianced 40cm of snow and is expecting 8cm more which equals 48cm of snow. The single-day downfall is nearly four times the monthly average for precipitation for May -- 10.2 cm. What dose pez mean? well pez is the abbreviation of the german word peppermint.then came the pez dispenser which was created in 1950, in 1952 character heads where desind also with fruity flavoured candy to the pez dispenser. the frist reason the pez was created was to help adult's smoking problems. pez dispenser have also showed up in many movies such as "the client" also "stand by me". now pez has created there own character heads such as Pez-A-SAURS which is there newest creation.

Klez

Elkern is a low-polymorphic cavity infector with network spreading capabilities. The virus first appeared on 25th-26th of October 2001. When we originally got the sample of Klez worm, we found out that it dropped this virus to a system. The virus then lived its own life not dependant on the worm. It should be noted that the virus doesn't work on any operating system except Windows 98 because of a serious bug in its code. Due to some blind luck the virus also works on Windows 2000.

The virus consists of 4 main parts - initial decryptor, startup code, the API table and the main code. When the virus code gets control, the initial decryptor which is low-polymorphic, decrypts the startup code code and passes control to it. The virus then locates KERNEL32.DLL library by scanning Windows memory and gets API addresses of 27 Windows functions. Under certain circumstances, the new Act may allow for certain diversions to be exempted from licencing requirements. These exemptions will be specified in the regulations. Under the new Act, a licence will continue to be required for diversions of water other than for diversions for household purposes, pursuant to a registration, or where the diversion is exempted under the regulations. All new water licences will be issued for a specified period of time. The new Act protects water which is being used for household purposes by providing a statutory right for household purposes and giving it top priority over all other uses of water . the new Act provides a process for registering these uses of water based on the date when the water use first started.

vimy ridge

<RIGHT>

these are my predictions of the 2002 playoffs

Edmonton if the oilers dont play detroit in the first round then i think that the oilers have a good chance of going far in the playoffs they got strong defence, they ony allowed 9 goals in the last 9 games if the oilers can convert offence and defence in the playoffs then they have a chance to go far

Dallas= i belive that the dallas stars wont make the playoffs.the trade that they made at the NHL trade deadline may come back to haunt them if they make the playoffs, they gave a good strong defencemen in nieuwendyk and in return got a player who will soon retire nieuwendyk is 39 but i think he still got 3 seasons left. plus if dallas dosent make the playoffs then my friend owes me $10 so dallas must lose

Detroit= most people belive that detriot will win the cup but not me i think detroit will get knocked out of the playoffs in round 2, they may have a stack team but they are to old the average age of the team is 27. and the average age of the oilers is 21. anyone wont to bet that detroit wont win the cup then leave a comment only if you go to j.pecry page.

Montreal there is still a chance that montreal might not make the playoffs but there is also a chance that they will and i think that montreal can be a surprising team in the playoffs this year. i have learned that saku kovu will try and play for the team during the playoffs that wiill be a big help during the playoffs for the montreal canadians.

st. Louis st.louis is a good hockey team but they are siting only 2 points from being knocked out of the playoffs, and the remaining two games of st.louis season they play detriot and thats four points they need.

did you know that

on march 22 1864 the original trophy cost $48.67 and was purchased the previous year by Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, Lord Stanley of Preston.
